The Belerren Sports and Wellbeing Centre at The Geelong College has earned significant architectural recognition, including honours in the 2025 National Architecture Awards Program for Educational Architecture.

Designed by Wardle, the Belerren Centre sits proudly at the western edge of the senior campus. More than just a building, it establishes a new sporting and learning precinct — a place for training, teaching, student wellbeing, community events and inter‑school competition.

A Centre Designed to Inspire

The building integrates seamlessly with the College’s heritage setting, sitting lightly into the existing hillside while offering dramatic internal volume, natural light, modern materials and spaces designed for both movement and learning.

Key features include:

  • A double‑court gymnasium with world‑class training capabilities
  • Flexible learning spaces
  • A colonnade framing views across the campus
  • A considered material palette that enhances comfort, warmth and usability

BSA’s Role in the Project

BSA provided statutory Building Surveying throughout the development, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, performance‑based solutions where needed, and continuity across design, construction and certification stages.

The building’s complexity — combining teaching, sports, assembly and specialist spaces — required careful coordination and timely advice. BSA assisted the team with compliance guidance, inspection stages and integration of essential safety measures.

A Significant Win for Educational Architecture

The award recognition celebrates the College’s vision for holistic student development and Wardle’s ability to create inspiring educational environments. The Centre is now an anchor point for student activity, demonstrating the best of contemporary school design and community‑focused architecture.

Congratulations to The Geelong College for this incredible achievement!
